What are BLDC Motors, and Why do CyClean’s Vehicles Use Them?

Hello readers! Today, we want to dissect our electric vehicle and talk about the motor that keeps our product going. It is the Brushless DC electric motor, or BLDC motor. Never heard of it? Do not fret, for I will explain to you the basics of BLDC motors. After all, any kind of knowledge is good, right?

Brushless vs. Brushed

Before we dive into brushless DC motors, let’s discuss brushed DC motors first. A brushed motor uses fixed brushes to supply something called a commutator with electric energy. The commutator rotates to reverse the current of coils in the motor. This is a complicated process, so I won’t go too deep into it. Brushless DC motors are different in that they do not need brushes or a commutator. With brushless motors, the rotor is a permanent magnet.

Advantages of the BLDC Motor

That is the basic structure of the two different types of motors. Moving away from the technical details, let’s explore the advantages brushless motors have over brushed motors. First, BLDC motors are more efficient. These motors are capable of continuously generating maximum torque, while brushed motors can reach the maximum at certain points. Second, BLDC motors have more controllability. Controllability means that the motor can be controlled to give precise torque and rotation speed, and this precision control leads to increased battery life and lowered heat generation. Third, BLDC motors are quieter. Because they do not have brushes (hence the name brushless), electrical noise is significantly reduced.



Because BLDC motors have a long life span, they are used in machines such as washing machines, fans, air conditioners, and electric vehicles like ours. The application of BLDC motors in motorbikes like ours allows for more power, more uphilling ability, a longer life span, and lower risk of heat dangers and sparks.
